Wall-to-wall carpet is fixed to the floor and runs through whole rooms, so traffic lanes, doorways and furniture marks are what show. Area rugs can be made from very different fibres, with fringes and dyes that ask for more care than a bedroom carpet does.
Upholstery adds its own questions, because a sofa, a dining chair and an office seat are built from different fabrics and padding. What to have ready before the visit
Tell the office what a rug is made of if you know, and whether it is a family piece or something bought last year. Mention any spots, what caused them and how long ago, because a fresh spill and an old stain are handled differently. For upholstery, the care tag on the cushion, if there is one, is worth reading out on the call.
Clear the small things off the floor and move breakables out of the way. Say how to park and get into the building, particularly for a Palm Desert office suite or a Palm Springs condo with limited access. Allow for the carpet to need time to dry, and ask the office how that will fit around the rest of your day.
